Even though there are numerous longest living aquatic animals are found in this world, only 10 of them are described as follows and 2 of them are immortal.
1. Greenland shark – 395 years to 513
The Greenland shark is considered by the scientists as the oldest vertebrate overworld and they can live up to minimum of 274 years, but expected that they are the oldest animal having 403 age to 515(approx). Greenland sharks are the fragment of a mystery and they can swim at a comfortable speed of 0.8 mph in Arctic waters and can mature to be at least 22 feet long. Researchers say they get maturity around age 162.
2. Koi fish – 230 years
Studies say most koi fish live up to the utmost 50 years, but Hanako type koi fish truly lived for 230 years. Zoology Scientists at Nagoya Women’s College conducted research on this type of specific koi fish by counting the rings on its scales to obtain its age. Nevertheless, many people are still uncertain that Hanako koi fish truly lived to be 230 years old and these are generally located in the Japan area.
3. Bowhead whale – 212 years
When Scientists were working on one bowhead whale, it was determined as 212 years old from its body status and locates in the Arctic Ocean nearby USA. Generally, these whales have the largest size mouth of any animal, which can be nearly 26 ft long and the complete body is 52 ft. long (approx). To save its body from cooling in the arctic region, it has 1.7 ft. thick blubber layer and they use their huge strong skulls to break down ten inches of thick ice.
4. Aldabra tortoise – 185 years
Basically, the Aldabra tortoise lives the nearby Galapagos Islands and is also truly freaking old. Some identities are Jonathan and Adwaita. Adwaita apparently lived to be over 200 years old, while Jonathan is still alive at 190 years old. These tortoises regularly make merry their centennials and beyond. First of all, Aldabra tortoises are quite friendly to people.
5. Warty oreo – 145 years
These deep-sea fish are types of creeping aquatic animals and are dark in structure with huge eyes and scientists observe they can live to be 145 years old. These fish swim down the ocean floor for a long-range i.e. from Australia to South America and vice versa. They usually eat small fish, crustaceans or squid, depending upon own size. The growing rate of these fish much slower and their eggs float on the water surface although they live in deep water. As young Warty oreo, they live up the top of the water surface until reaching at age 4 and start swimming and living in the deeps after maturity i.e. after 4 years old.
6. Orange roughy – 151 years
The Orange roughy looks like a little flayed person and is predictable to have a lifetime of about 151 years. The sexual maturity of this animal arrives between the age of 21 and 30 and slowly matures right through their lives. For this reason, they’re in danger of overfishing. Studies state slow rising species to recuperate after a noteworthy segment of their inhabitants is killed. Since orange roughy takes around 2 decades to get sexual maturity, they are unable to bounce back plainly and initiate having babies right after a trawl net captures many of them. Hence, the rare sustainable idea is available to protect orange roughy seafood.
7. Lake sturgeon – 155 years
Basically, the lake sturgeon live in the freshwater bodies like Great Lakes and other water bodies in North America, where they could grow up to 155 years old (approx). Traditionally, the Native Americans include these in diet and but newcomers think them as an annoyance.
Generally, the commercial fishermen stack sturgeon on the lake shores, allowing them to rot freely. People like to eat their eggs and lake sturgeons were greatly fished and the numbers go on diminishing. Now, these days, the fish have almost vanished from the Mississippi River and now they’re being recovered in the Great Lakes.
8. Shortraker rockfish – 160 years
Rockfish especially the shortraker rockfish can live for about 160 years, but maybe as much as 180 years. When identifying the lifespan of this species, scientists use a graph to estimate the utmost age for the same species. For your information, some shortraker rockfish are 250-years-old.
9. Jellyfish (immortal)
You must be surprised, how jellyfish is immortal! Whenever the surrounding or health gets tough due to attack or injury caused by predators or fishermen or any other reasons, the jellyfish can turn itself like Benjamin Button and turn all its cells younger. It becomes like a small blob after taking birth and slowly muscle cells may turn into nerve cells, eggs or sperm. Further, the jellyfish can grow again and produce several clones of it. In this way, Jellyfish becomes immortal. These fish are much smaller like fingernails and locates in huge numbers in the sea and ocean.
10. Hydra (immortal)
Hydra may be very small aquatic unicellular animals (approx half-inch length) but they continue regenerating their own cells for reproducing new Hydra and hence, no death of Hydra is there. Hydra is not like a bigger dragon having multi-heads, but quite a small marine tube. They never show any signs of aging and many of their cells are stem cells, which can be differentiated to turn out to be any cell type.
Hope, you must have a good idea about longest living animals and also, some more animals are located like Galápagos tortoise – 178 years, Eastern box turtle – 140 years, American lobster – 105 years, Shortspine thornyhead (116) and the tiger (117) and rasphead rockfishes -1118 years, Fin whale – 116 years, Sablefish – 115 years, Blue whale – 112 years, Redbanded rockfish – 107 years, Olm salamander – 104 years, White sturgeon – 105 years.
